Handy tools to have:
- TortoiseSVN - An application that integrates into the Windows shell and provides a very easy to use interface to Subversion. Free!
- Irfan View - An application that can display almost any image and video format. Also provides some simple image editing tools. Free!
- AVG Anti-Virus - A free version of AVG's anti-virus software. Check out their anti-malware products too. Free!
- Super DVD Ripper - Easy to use program that can read video from DVDs and save it to your hard drive. Useful for putting on your DVDs on your laptop for easy travel or on your media center PC so you don't have to sort through your DVD collection to watch your movies.
- RealVNC - Remotely control a computer from another computer over your local network or the internet. Free!
Windows Vista Media Center tools:
- Lifextender - This application is excellent for getting rid of those pesky commercials in your recorded TV shows. It's incredibly simple to use yet very customizable. Your dvr-ms files will be commercial free and smaller in size also, giving you more hard drive space to store more TV shows. Free!
- MCEBuddy - A lot like Lifextender, but can also convert your recorded shows to different file formats. This allows you to save hard drive space and make files that are playable on portable devices like an i-pod. It's not a difficult application to use and even better, it's free!
Software I've written:
- Resistor Calculator - You tell the program the color of the bands on a resistor (both 4 and 5 band are supported) and it will calculate the value of the resistance and tolerance. Perfect for those like me that haven't memorized it yet. Check it out!
- Sorting Algorithms Comparison Program - Test different sorting algorithms to see which one performs better in various situations.
